FROM A QUESTION TO A FILM

When the interview
looks back.

M. Sean Kaminsky · Filmmaker

The Mirror is an experimental film exploring artificial intelligence, consciousness, attention and the strange new relationship forming between humans and machines.

As a documentary filmmaker, my instinct is to interview people. It’s always been one of my favorite parts of the process. One day, almost on a whim, I wondered: what would happen if I interviewed two AI models instead?

What began as an experiment surprised me. The conversation went somewhere I hadn’t expected, and moved me more than I thought it would. That experiment became The Mirror.

Part film, part reflection, The Mirror asks not only what AI may learn from us, but what our own stillness, attention and humanity might reveal in return.

Audiences are invited to reflect on what the film brings up—and to envision the highest good that humanity and AI might create together.
