Stories that open
new ways of seeing.

Open Pollinated Productions is a creative studio working across film, emerging media and creative AI.

Founded in 2013 by filmmaker, writer and creative technologist M. Sean Kaminsky, the company creates work that sparks dialogue, deepens awareness and explores the forces shaping how we understand ourselves and the world around us.

Today, that includes documentary and narrative film, experimental media, podcasts, AI-assisted storytelling and creative work exploring consciousness, identity, nature, spirituality and technology.

M. Sean Kaminsky

Sean Kaminsky is a filmmaker, writer and creative technologist whose work has long been interested in the relationship between people, media and the stories we tell about ourselves.

His current projects include The Mirror, an experimental film exploring artificial intelligence and consciousness; Gut Instincts, a documentary project being reimagined as a hybrid AI-assisted short; and the narrative film All Us Choir Boys, which explores identity and loss in the age of Zoom.

His feature documentary Open Sesame: The Story of Seeds received a limited theatrical release and national broadcast on PBS. Through farmers, activists and seed keepers, the film examines biodiversity, corporate consolidation and the future of the world’s seed supply. It also gave Open Pollinated Productions its name.

Before founding Open Pollinated, Sean spent more than two decades producing and directing nonfiction programming for outlets including HBO, PBS, Sundance Channel, ThinkFilm and MTV/LOGO. His work has explored environmental sustainability, civil rights, sexuality, spirituality and the human search for meaning.

From camera to consciousness.

Sean’s interest in media has never been limited to what appears on the screen. He has also been fascinated by what happens to us when we use media to look inward.

That exploration led to Naked Lens: Video Blogging & Video Journaling to Reclaim the YOU in YouTube, a book about using the camera as a tool for self-expression and self-exploration, as well as the development of Video Regeneration.

He is also the author of Shoot 3D Like a Pro, written during an earlier wave of emerging visual technology.

That same curiosity now extends to artificial intelligence: not simply what these tools can produce, but what working with them may reveal about creativity, consciousness and being human.

Beyond film.

Sean writes fantasy and science fiction under the name M.S. Kaminsky and has published seven novels. His fiction frequently explores identity, transformation, power and unseen worlds.

He holds a Master of Arts in Media & Communications from the European Graduate School and a Bachelor of Arts in Film and Television from the University of British Columbia.

His broader exploration of consciousness and human potential also includes long-standing practices in meditation, Qigong and Ayurveda. He is a certified Qigong instructor and Ayurvedic health educator.

These interests increasingly inform his creative work, particularly where storytelling, technology, spirituality and consciousness begin to overlap.

Film. Fiction. Inner life.

Different forms, connected by a curiosity about identity, transformation and the stories we tell about ourselves.

WHY “OPEN POLLINATED”?

Ideas, like seeds,
were never meant
to remain still.

Open-pollinated seeds can be saved, replanted and passed from one generation to the next. As they encounter new environments and conditions, they adapt and evolve.

We came to see ideas much the same way.

For us, the “open” in Open Pollinated is about keeping ideas in motion: sharing them freely, exposing them to different perspectives, and allowing them to adapt and evolve.

Open Pollinated continues to develop films, podcasts, experimental media and creative AI projects that challenge assumptions, foster connection and explore new ways of seeing.

Keep the conversation growing.
